BEACHUM SETS HSU RECORD IN DOUBLE-OVERTIME WIN

Box Score

Krystal Beachum scored a record 41 points as Henderson State upset Southwestern Oklahoma State 101-97 in double-overtime at the Duke Wells Center in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Beachum was 15-of-29 from the field and 9-of-13 from the foul line to set the HSU and GAC single game scoring record.

Kathy Comeaux held the previous HSU record of 39 points set on January 4, 1994 against Texas A&M Commerce, while the previous GAC record was also 39 points by Natalia Santos of Arkansas Tech on Nov. 26, 2011 against St. Edward's.

Henderson State, 13-10 overall and 8-9 in the Great American Conference, ended a five-game losing skid in the process.

Southwestern Oklahoma, 14-9 overall and 11-6 in the GAC, dominated for the first 13 minutes of the game as the Lady Bulldogs built a 32-16 advantage with 6:54 left in the half.

A resilient Lady Reddie team fought back and outscored SWOSU 23-9 the remainder of the half behind the aggressive play of Beachum and her 17 points in the first 20 minutes.

Henderson State scored the final six points of the half with the help of a layup and a pair of free throws by Dulincia Keener to make the score 41-39 at the break.

In the second half, Henderson led by as many as seven points before SWOSU came charging back to take a 78-76 lead after Taryn Sayama made one of two free throws with 33 seconds remaining.

Beachum continued her big game and scored her 32nd point of the game with 3 seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 78-78 and send the game into overtime.

Again it was Beachum that tied the game with 19 second remaining in the first overtime to force the teams to play another five minutes.

In the second overtime, Henderson State was 8-for-8 from the foul line as the Lady Reddies outscored the Lady Bulldogs 12-8. It was only fitting that Beachum finish the game with a pair of free throws to secure the win.

Beachum may have been the star of the game, but she had a strong supporting cast.

Taylor Washington scored 14 points and was 7-of-9 from the foul line, while Vanessa Pieper scored 13 points.

Keener also had a huge night scoring 12 points while crashing the boards for 15 key rebounds.

Aungelique Sledge was limited to nine points but pulled down seven rebounds and had seven steals with three leading to break-away baskets.

Miranda Dubberly hit a pair of 3-point field goals and ended the evening with 6 points while having a career-best 10 rebounds.

The Lady Reddies finished the game shooting 43 percent from the field making 31-of-72 shots, while SWOSU converted on 33-of-80 attempts for 41 percent.

The Lady Bulldogs used 13-of-39 shooting from the 3-point arc to answer Henderson's play inside.
Henderson State also used a big night at the foul line as the Lady Reddies hit on 79 percent from the foul line making 33-of-42 attempts.

Henderson State will play its final home game of the season on Saturday when the Lady Reddies play host to Northwestern Oklahoma with tip-off set for 2 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.

Beachum, who has 957 points in her three-year career at Henderson, will be playing her final game at the Duke Wells Center. The senior from Mexia, Texas will be honored following Saturday's game.
