LADY REDDIE SOFTBALL SWEEPS DOUBLE-HEADER FROM UAM

Henderson State had a huge day offensively as the Lady Reddies swept a double-header from Arkansas-Monticello winning 9-3 and 10-9, Friday in Great American Conference softball in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Henderson State, 7-10 overall and 3-3 in the GAC, clubbed out 19 hits including eight for extra bases.

In the opener, Henderson State scored five runs in the second-inning all with two outs. After loading the bases, Alicia Zack put the Lady Reddies on the board with a two-run single.

Kayla Williams followed with Henderson's third hit in the inning to plate another run to make the score 3-1. Amy Halter then reached on a base hit of her own to load the bases for Amber Klug who drove in two runs with a single to give HSU a 5-1 advantage.

Henderson State added a run in the third-inning when Keirsten Seahorn laced a triple to right field to plate Sarah Gibson who reached on a fielder's choice.

After UAM (10-7, 3-3) scored a pair of runs in the fifth, HSU answered with three more runs in the bottom half of the inning as the Lady Reddies loaded the bases on singles by Ashlyn White, Tricia Hock and a Seahorn walk. Zack then cleared the bases with a double to center field to make the score 9-3.

Williams pitched 4 2/3 innings to get the win while White closed the door on the Cotton Blossoms to pick up her second save of the season.

In game two, Henderson State overcame a 7-1 deficit scoring six runs in the fifth-inning and three runs in the sixth to rally for a 10-9 win.

In a game that featured nine home runs, UAM got long balls from Lira Piha, Lacy Blanchard, Beth Johnson and two by Korie Parker to go out in front 7-1.

In the Henderson sixth-inning, the Lady Reddies blasted three home runs in the frame.

Zack started things with a two-run blast and Tricia Hock later smashed a two-run shot of her own.

Morgan South, who hit a solo home run in the second-inning, hit her second of the game to tie the score at 7-7.
UAM regained the lead in the sixth with a pair of runs, but Henderson State answered with three in the bottom half of the inning.

The inning began as Seahorn walked and advanced to third on a Zack double down the right field line. Williams then grounded out, but was able to plate Seahorn and advance Zack to third.

With two-outs, Klug doubled to center field to tie the score and then scored on a White single.
Williams then was able to retire UAM in the seventh to pick up her second win of the day and improve to 3-3 on the year.

Zack ended the day with four hits including two doubles, a home run and seven RBI, while South went 4-for-6 with four runs scored and a pair of home runs.

White and Klug also had four hits each with Klug having a double and 3 RBI.

The two teams will finish the four-game series with a double-header Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. at Dee White Field.
