HSU Softball Completes Series Sweep of SWOSU

Henderson State completed a four-game sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma as the Lady Reddies won a double-header from the Lady Bulldogs 7-6 and 3-1, Saturday at Dee White Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

With Saturday's wins, Henderson State improved to 15-12 overall and 11-5 in the Great American Conference. The Lady Reddies have won nine straight home games including series sweeps over Arkansas-Monticello and SWOSU.

The Lady Reddies had to play catch-up in the opener as Southwestern Oklahoma took a 4-0 lead in the second-inning.

Ashlyn White led off the HSU second-inning with a solo home run to get the offense started.
Following an Amy Halter single, Alicia Zack smashed a double to score Halter, then Tricia Hock singled home Zack to cut the HSU deficit to 4-3.

Henderson erupted for four more runs in the third-inning as Amber Klug and Sarah Gipson had back-to-back singles to lead off the inning.

Morgan South drove in the game-tying run with a single before Jaylin Baldridge hit a 3-run homer to give HSU a 7-4 lead.

SWOSU, 5-17 overall and 2-10 in the GAC fought back scoring single runs in the fourth and sixth innings, but Aslhlyn White closed out the game in the circle for Henderson to improve to 3-3 on the season.

The Lady Bulldogs again took the early lead in the series finale as Nikki Brandt hit a solo home run in the first-inning.

Henderson State again put together another big inning scoring three runs in the third-inning to clinch the sweep.

Halter and Kayla Williams got things started with singles, but the big hit of the inning was a two-run double by Gipson to put Henderson on top 3-1.

Lady Reddie starting pitcher Cagen Medlock cruised the rest of the way as she recorded a complete-game win to improve to 5-2 on the season.

Medlock gave up just five hits and struck out five batters in picking up her fourth straight win in the circle.

South finished the day going 4-for-7 with a double and a run batted in, while Klug was 3-for-5.

The Lady Reddies hit for a .303 average in the four-game series including having nine extra-base hits.

Klug finished 4-for-8 for the weekend while Gipson was 5-for-13 with a pair of doubles and 5 RBI.

South, Williams and Hock also had four hits each.

Henderson State will next travel to Alva, Okla. to face Northwestern Oklahoma in a 4-game series beginning Friday.
