Softball Earns a Split With SAU

After losing the first game of its series with Southern Arkansas 12-2, Henderson State returned the favor in the night cap beating the Lady Muleriders 12-4.

It was an explosive day offensively for both teams as HSU and SAU combined for 35 hits, 6 doubles and 5 home runs.

Henderson State, 10-11 overall and 6-4 in the Great American Conference, trailed 3-0 in game two before tying the score in the second-inning with the help of two SAU errors.

The Lady Reddies took the lead the very next inning as Amber Klug, Sarah Gipson, Morgan South and Ashlyn White put together four straight hits.

The hits kept coming in the fourth as Henderson scored five runs to make the score 10-3.

Alicia Zack started things with a single to right field, while Kayla Williams reach on a bunt single, advancing Zack to second.

Following a Tricia Hock sacrifice bunt, Klug singled home Zack. Gipson then doubled to left-field to increase Henderson's lead to 7-3.

White then provided the big hit of the inning when she blasted a two-run double to right-center field. White then scored when Kailey Johnson laced a single to left field.

After SAU scored a run in the fourth, HSU added two runs in the fifth with Gipson having her second run-scoring double of the game.

Cagen Medlock picked up the complete-game win in the circle to improve to 2-2 on the season. Medlock gave up four runs on five hits while striking out two SAU batters.

In the opener, the Lady Muleriders put together a 9-run first-inning and cruised to a 12-2 win. SAU put together seven hits including two home runs in the opening inning.

Henderson's lone runs came in the third-inning on a home run by Zack, while Gipson plated Hock who tripled earlier in the inning.

Gibson went 4-for-6 in the twin bill with two doubles and three RBI, while Kayla Williams collected three hits.

The two teams will finish their four-game series with a double-header Saturday at Noon in Magnolia, Ark.
