Lady Reddie Softball Shuts Out SAU in Finale

Kayla Williams and Sarah Gibson had three hits each as the Henderson State softball team shutout Southern Arkansas 8-0 in the final game of its four game series on Saturday in Magnolia.

After losing game one 4-2, the Lady Reddies banged out 17 hits while HSU pitcher Cagen Medlock shutout the Lady Muleriders.

Henderson's first run in the final game came in the first-inning as Gipson singled to plate Tricia Hock who hit a one-out triple to center field.

The Lady Reddies added three more runs in the second-inning with the help of six hits in the frame. Alicia Zack and Williams both singled with both advancing on stolen bases.

Hock drove in both runners when she singled through the right side to make the score 3-0.

Amber Klug then doubled to advance Hock to third before Gipson drove in her second run of the game with a single to left field.

Henderson State, 11-12 overall and 7-5 in the Great American Conference, added two more runs in the third-inning taking advantage of two SAU errors and getting a RBI single by Zack.

The Lady Reddies invoked the 8-run mercy rule in the sixth-inning as they put together four hits in the inning including a double by Gipson and a run-scoring single by Ashlyn White.

Medlock improved to 3-2 on the season picking up her second win of the weekend.

In the opener, Brooke Goad broke a 2-2 tie with a walk-off two-run homer to give SAU a 4-2 win.

Henderson State loaded the bases in the first-inning with White driving in the first run of the game with a single.

SAU, 11-11 overall and 6-6 in league play, answered with a run in the bottom half of the first when Sarah Higginbotham singled to drive home Shelby Miller who singled earlier in the inning.

Williams gave HSU a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh when she laid down a bunt single to score Hock.

The Lady Muleriders responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to get the win.

Henderson State will next play a four-game GAC series against Southwestern Oklahoma beginning Friday at 1 p.m. at Dee White Field.
