Box Score 2 Amber Klug went 4-for-5 and
Tricia Hock drove in three runs to lead Henderson State to a double-header sweep of Harding, 5-2 and 6-5, Sunday at Dee White Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Lady Reddies improved to 26-17 overall and 22-10 in the Great American Conference, while Harding fell to 27-22 and 19-17 in league play.
In game one, Henderson State took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning as Klug laced a double to right field to score both Hock who walked, and
Kayla Williams who reached on a single, earlier in the frame.
The Lady Reddies added two more runs in the third-inning with the help of a RBI single by
Ashlyn White and a
Sarah Gipson double to score White and increase the Henderson lead to 4-0.
Harding plated two runs in the fourth-inning on a single by Marley Edwards and a ground out by Carolyn Chambers.
The Lady Reddies got one run back in the fifth-inning as
Jaylin Baldridge singled up the middle to score White who reached on a one-out single and advanced on a wild pitch.
Cagen Medlock worked five innings in the circle to pick up the win. The senior from Whitehouse, Texas allowed four hits and struck out three batters.
Hannah Bender pitched the final two innings and gave up two hits in picking up her first save of the season.
In the finale, HSU went on top 2-0 in the third-inning as
Alicia Zack led off the inning with a double off the left field fence.
With one-out, Williams found the gap in right-center field to score Zack. After a single by Klug to advance Williams to third, HSU plated its second run when Klug stole second and Williams advanced home on an errant throw to second.
The Lady Reddies added to their lead in the fourth-inning as Gipson, Baldridge and
Morgan South all singled to load the bases to start off the inning.
Zack drove home the first run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to center field, before Hock blasted a three-run shot to right-center field to make the score 6-0.
Harding struck for two runs in the fifth-inning on a two-run blast by Carolyn Chambers to make the score 6-2.
Amanda Berdon hit a solo home run to left field in sixth-inning for Harding to cut into HSU's lead 6-3.
Harding rallied in the seventh-inning as Jessica Greene hit a two-out, two-run homer to straight away center field to make the score 6-5.
Courtney Derrick then doubled to left field to set the stage for Kimsey Beck. White, however, finished the game by getting Beck to ground out to short.
Medlock pitched four innings and allowed just one hit and struck out three batters to improve to 13-4 on the year. White pitched the final three innings to pick up her fifth save of the season.
Henderson State will next travel to Russellville, Ark. for a four-game GAC series with Arkansas Tech beginning on Friday at 2 p.m.
