Lady Reddies Lose Pair of Extra-Inning Games to ATU

Henderson State dropped a pair of extra-inning games to Arkansas Tech as the Golden Suns beat the Lady Reddies 5-2 and 2-1, Friday in Great American Conference softball action in Russellville, Ark.

The Lady Reddies had a 2-1 lead through five innings in game one, as Sarah Gipson provided a run-scoring double in the fourth-inning and Amber Klug laced a single in the fifth-inning that scored Alicia Zack.

ATU, 24-24 overall and 14-20 in the GAC, tied the game in the sixth-inning on a Whitney Robinson single that plated Siarra Gomez who led off the inning with a single.

The Lady Reddies, 26-19 and 22-12, had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the seventh-inning as Tricia Hock led off the inning with a walk and Amy Halter followed with a single.

Both Hock and Halter advanced on a stolen base and Henderson had runners on second and third with no outs.

ATU pitcher Sydnee Clark got out of the jam as Hock was thrown out at home trying to advance on a wild pitch, while Morgan South and Ashlyn White grounded out to end the inning.

Arkansas Tech had runners on second and third in the ninth-inning when Ashton Long hit a three-run homer to left field to end the game.

In the second game, Henderson State tied the game at 1-1 in the seventh-inning on a single by Klug to extend the game. Klug scored Hock who also led off the inning with a single.

The Golden Suns scored the game-winner in the ninth-inning as Jalissa Gum hit a two-out double to score Victoria Huie.

Gipson and South led the Henderson offense with three hits each while Klug was 2-for-6 with two RBI.

The two teams will wrap up the series with a double-header Saturday beginning at Noon in Chartwells Complex in Russellville, Ark.
