Box Score Henderson State's season came to an end on Friday as the Lady Reddies lost to Southern Arkansas 3-1 at the Great American Conference Softball Championships in Bentonville, Ark.
Playing their third game of the day, the Lady Reddies advanced to the semi-finals after a 4-3 win over East Central and an 11-2 beating of Arkansas-Monticello.
Despite having runners on base every inning, Southern Arkansas managed its three runs in the fourth-inning with the help of a two-run homer by Shelby Miller.
Henderson State scored its lone run of the game in the sixth-inning when
Jaylin Baldridge and
Kayla Williams led off the inning with back –to-back singles.
Baldridge scored on a ground out by
Tricia Hock, however Williams was stranded on second-base after a couple of close plays at first.
The Lady Reddies threatened again in the seventh as
Amber Klug and
Morgan South reached on singles, but SAU starting pitcher Shelby Miller was able to get out of the jam to pick up the win and improve to 14-13 on the year.
Williams was tabbed with the loss. The senior from Longview, Texas worked out of several SAU scoring threats as the Muleriders stranded 14 runners.
Williams led Henderson State offensively going 2-for-2 at the plate with a double.
Several Lady Reddies had strong performances in the tournament with Williams hitting .538 going 7-for-13 with a double.
Klug was 7-for-14 in the five games, having three doubles, a home run, seven runs batted in and five runs scored. The senior from Kingwood, Texas had a .929 slugging percentage in the tournament.
Amy Halter was 6-for-16, while
Sarah Gipson and
Tricia Hock had four hits each.
Ashlyn White blasted two home runs and drove in six runs.
Henderson State finished the season with a 31-25 record and recorded its first winning season since 2010.
