Box Score 2 The Henderson State softball team opened their portion of the home schedule with a pair of wins over Missouri Western 6-2, and Lincoln 14-2, Friday at Dee White Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Reddies totaled 20 hits in the twin bill, while HSU pitchers surrendered nine hits and striking out 10 batters.
Amy Halter,
Ashlyn White and
Taylor Daniels had three hits each to lead the Reddie offense.
Halter scored three runs and blasted a triple, while White drove in four runs on the afternoon.
In the opener, Missouri Western took a 2-0 lead in the first-inning before Henderson scratched for an unearned run in the third to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Reddie bats came alive in the fourth inning as White and Daniels opened the frame with back-to-back singles.
Two batters later,
Alison Waggoner crushed a Janie Smith pitch over the left field fence to put Henderson on top 4-2.
The Reddies added a pair of runs the very next inning as Halter laced a triple to right-field followed by a two-run homer by
Sarah Gipson.
Michelle Sorensen went the distance in the circle against the Griffons to pick up the win. The freshman from Sherwood, Ark. allowed three hits and struck out eight batters.
Against Lincoln, Henderson scored seven runs in the second-inning with the big hits being a two-run single by White and a two-run double by
Morgan South.
The Reddies put together another 7-run inning in the fourth as
Alicia Zack smacked a three-run double and White added another two-run single.
Henderson State returns to action on Saturday against Christian Brothers with the first pitch scheduled for 9 a.m. at Dee White Field. The Reddies will then take on Missouri Western in a rematch set for 11 a.m.
