The Henderson State softball team (12-6 and 3-3 in Great American Conference play) will travel to Weatherford, Okla. to take on Southwestern Oklahoma in a four game series, beginning with a double-header on Friday at 1 p.m.
Sarah Gipson leads the team with a .446 batting average and has piled up 26 RBIs and four home runs on the season, while
Ashlyn White leads HSU with five home runs and a .383 hitting percentage.
From the circle, freshman
Michelle Sorensen has been consistent this season, striking out 56 batters and putting together a 6-4 record with a 2.00 ERA.
White has also had a strong season in the circle for the Reddies, compiling a 5-2 record and pitching 22 strikeouts.
Kiersten Seahorn had a strong last outing at Southern Arkansas on Saturday, blasting a three-run home run that led HSU to a 6-2 victory over the Lady Muleriders.
Seniors
Amy Halter (23) and
Tricia Hock (22) are second and third on the team in hits, respectively. Hock has scored 20 runs in the 2015 campaign, while Halter has plated 18 times.
Ranking second on the team in RBIs behind Gipson is
Morgan South, who has collected 20 while also smacking four homers on 12 hits.
Gipson had three hits in the game against SAU Saturday, while Hock and
Caroline Cullins had two hits each.
SWOSU (4-12 overall, 0-4 GAC) is led by Maci Brown, who sports a .487 batting average and has collected 19 hits on the season.
Adrienne Martinez holds a .413 hitting percentage and also has 19 hits, while contributing five home runs and 14 RBIs.
The Reddies and Bulldogs rank third and fourth, respectively, in the GAC in total team batting average, as HSU posts at .333 percentage while SWOSU hits at .331.
Coach
Beth Jackson's squad ranks first in the GAC in ERA at 2.51, while SWOSU is in last place at 5.72.
HSU also comes in second in the conference in runs scored with 124 and RBIs with 109.
The Reddies do most of their hitting work early, having accumulated 26 runs while limiting their opponents to just 6 in the second inning of games this season.
The two teams will finish the four-game series with a Saturday double-header beginning at Noon.
