HSU SOFTBALL COMPLETES SERIES SWEEP OF SWOSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Henderson State completed a four-game sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma winning a Saturday double-header from the Bulldogs 8-6 and 8-3, Saturday in Weatherford, Okla.

The Reddies, 16-6 overall and 7-3 in the Great American Conference, scored five runs in the top of the seventh-inning in the final game of the series to record the sweep.

With the score tied at 3-3 in the seventh, Morgan South and Caroline Cullins led off the frame with back-to-back singles to get things started.

Destiny Garza then advanced the runners to second and third on a sacrifice bunt before Amy Halter laced a single to right field to drive in South and put Henderson on top 4-3.

The Reddie weren't finished as Henderson went on to load the base before Ashlyn White doubled to left centerfield to score three runs to put the game away.

Henderson took a 1-0 lead in the first-inning with the help of a Halter single, and added another run in the second when Cullins singled to left field to score Alicia Zack who led off the inning with a single of her own.

Southwestern Oklahoma took the lead in the third-inning scoring three runs on three hits to go on top 3-2 after three innings

Henderson State scored an unearned run in the sixth when Sarah Gipson singled, and pinch runner Shayla Wright advanced to third on a Kiersten Seahorn grounder that was mishandled by the Bulldog third-baseman.

Wright would then score on a ground out by White before the Reddies put together their 5-run inning.

Michelle Sorensen would pitch the final three innings in a relief role and allow just one hit to pick up the win and improve to 9-4 on the year.

In the opener, Gipson was 2-for-5 and drove in five runs to lead the Reddies to an 8-6 win.

The senior from Grand Saline, Texas had a pair of two-run singles and also drove in Henderson's first run of the game in the first-inning on a ground out.

Henderson State totaled 12 hits in the game with Cullins going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Amy Halter was 3-for-5.

Sorenson pitched 6 1/3 innings and struck out two batters to pick up the win.

Henderson State hit for a .384 average (48-for-125) in the four game series while averaging 10 runs per game.

Seahorn led the way with seven hits while hitting for a .500 average. The sophomore from Gilmer, Texas had a double, 4 RBI and scored 6 runs.

Cullins was 6-for-11 at the plate with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored, while Taylor Daniels was 6-for-12 with a double.

Halter also had seven hits for the Reddies and scored four runs.
