Box Score 2 Henderson State completed a four-game sweep of Southwestern Oklahoma winning a Saturday double-header from the Bulldogs 8-6 and 8-3, Saturday in Weatherford, Okla.
The Reddies, 16-6 overall and 7-3 in the Great American Conference, scored five runs in the top of the seventh-inning in the final game of the series to record the sweep.
With the score tied at 3-3 in the seventh,
Morgan South and
Caroline Cullins led off the frame with back-to-back singles to get things started.
Destiny Garza then advanced the runners to second and third on a sacrifice bunt before
Amy Halter laced a single to right field to drive in South and put Henderson on top 4-3.
The Reddie weren't finished as Henderson went on to load the base before
Ashlyn White doubled to left centerfield to score three runs to put the game away.
Henderson took a 1-0 lead in the first-inning with the help of a Halter single, and added another run in the second when Cullins singled to left field to score
Alicia Zack who led off the inning with a single of her own.
Southwestern Oklahoma took the lead in the third-inning scoring three runs on three hits to go on top 3-2 after three innings
Henderson State scored an unearned run in the sixth when
Sarah Gipson singled, and pinch runner
Shayla Wright advanced to third on a Kiersten Seahorn grounder that was mishandled by the Bulldog third-baseman.
Wright would then score on a ground out by White before the Reddies put together their 5-run inning.
Michelle Sorensen would pitch the final three innings in a relief role and allow just one hit to pick up the win and improve to 9-4 on the year.
In the opener, Gipson was 2-for-5 and drove in five runs to lead the Reddies to an 8-6 win.
The senior from Grand Saline, Texas had a pair of two-run singles and also drove in Henderson's first run of the game in the first-inning on a ground out.
Henderson State totaled 12 hits in the game with Cullins going 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while
Amy Halter was 3-for-5.
Sorenson pitched 6 1/3 innings and struck out two batters to pick up the win.
Henderson State hit for a .384 average (48-for-125) in the four game series while averaging 10 runs per game.
Seahorn led the way with seven hits while hitting for a .500 average. The sophomore from Gilmer, Texas had a double, 4 RBI and scored 6 runs.
Cullins was 6-for-11 at the plate with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored, while
Taylor Daniels was 6-for-12 with a double.
Halter also had seven hits for the Reddies and scored four runs.
Sorensen picked up three wins in the circle for Henderson, striking out 11 batters in 16.2 innings while posting a 1.68 earned run average.
Henderson State returns home on Friday, March 20 to begin a four-game GAC series against Northwestern Oklahoma.
