Box Score 2 Henderson State completed a four-game series sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma as the Reddies beat the Rangers 4-1 and 8-5, Sunday in GAC softball in Russellville, Ark.
With the win, Henderson State improved to 20-6 overall and 11-3 in the Great American Conference. The sweep was Henderson's second straight with the Reddies running their win streak to nine games.
In the first game, Northwestern Oklahoma struck for a run in the top half of the first-inning, but the Reddies answered in the bottom half of the frame as
Taylor Daniels led things off with a double to left-center field.
With two outs,
Keirsten Seahorn doubled to score Taylor to tie the game at 1-1 after one inning of play.
Ashlyn White put Henderson State on top 2-1 with solo home run to lead off the second-inning. The home run by White was her third of the series.
The Reddies added two more runs in the fifth-inning to make the score 4-1.
Daniels and Seashorn both singled with
Destiny Garza reaching on an error which allowed Daniels to score. Henderson would load the bases and score its final run of the game when
Alicia Zack walked to plate Seahorn.
A day after pitching a no-hitter,
Michelle Sorensen went the distance in the circle allowing just three hits and striking out a pair of batters to improve to 11-4 on the season.
In the series finale, Henderson State took a 1-0 lead in the first-inning as
Sarah Gipson single-home
Amy Halter who walked and stole second base.
The Reddies would add two more runs in the second-inning and again it was Gipson who would deliver as the senior blasted a two-run double to left-center field to make the score 3-0.
Northwestern would tie the score at 3-3 in the top of the third on a two-run home run by Jordan Haya followed by a solo blast by Shelby Anderson.
The Reddies, however, would erupt for five runs in the bottom of the fourth with Gipson having another two-run single and then
Courtney Warren would hit a 3-run double to put Henderson on top 8-3.
Sorensen would pitch the final three innings in relief to record her first save of the year.
Gipson went 3-for-4 in the game with five runs batted in to lead the Reddie offense.
Henderson State will next take on Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday at Sully Anderson Field beginning at 2 p.m.
