Henderson State will return to the softball field after a two-week break as the Reddies play host to Southern Arkansas in a four-game Great American Conference series beginning at 1 p.m. at Dee White Field in Arkadelphia.
The series was originally set to begin on Friday, but due to the recent winter weather and poor field conditions, the series has been pushed back a day.
Henderson State, 11-5 overall and 2-2 in the GAC, last played on Feb. 21. The Reddies' series with Arkansas-Monticello last weekend was cancelled because of poor weather.
The Reddies have a team .331 batting average and a league best 2.37 team earned run average.
Sarah Gipson leads the team offensively with a .408 batting average which includes a team-best four home runs and 25 runs batted in.
Amy Halter follows with a .389 average with 16 runs scored, while Kiersten Seahorn sports a .387 average with 11 RBI.
Michelle Sorensen and
Ashlyn White will handle the pitching duties for the Reddies this weekend.
Sorensen has a 6-3 record with a 1.57 ERA. The freshman from Sherwood, Ark. has struck out 54 batters in 49 innings of work with opponents being limited to a .173 average.
White, who also has a .381 batting average with four home runs, is 4-2 on the year with a 2.24 ERA.
The sophomore from Longview, Texas has worked 40.2 innings and has chalked up 18 strikeouts.
Southern Arkansas, 11-6 overall and 5-2 in GAC play, claimed the 2014 GAC Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Regionals.
The Lady Muleriders are hitting .331 as a unit and lead the league in runs scored averaging 7.3 runs per game.
SAU also leads the GAC in home runs with 24, and are second in slugging percentage at .557.
Leading the team offensively is Ashton Atwell who has a .443 average with seven home runs and 23 RBI.
Darian Harris follows with a .397 average having eight doubles and 12 RBI.
Miranda Cuff is SAU's top pitcher having a 5-1 record with a 4.27 ERA. Chancy Williams will also start in the circle. Williams is 3-4 on the year with a 6.03 ERA.
