Box Score Henderson State opened its four game Great American Conference series with Harding winning 5-3, but game two was halted after 12-innings due to darkness.
The Reddies improved to 27-8 and 18-5 in GAC play with the opening game victory, ending Harding's six-game win streak.
Morgan South drove in Henderson's first run of the game in the second-inning with a single that scored
Keirsten Seahorn who led off the inning with an infield single.
After Harding tied the score in the bottom of the second, the Reddies scored three unearned runs in the third-inning with
Alicia Zack and
Sarah Gipson both having key base hits in the frame.
Taylor Daniels increased Henderson's lead to 5-1 in the sixth-inning with her third home run of the year.
Harding mounted a big threat in the bottom of the sixth as the Bisons scored two runs and loaded the bases before HSU pitcher
Michelle Sorensen got out of the jam with a strike out and forcing Chandler Little to fly out with the bases loaded.
Sorensen would retire the side in order in the ninth to pick up the win and improve to 13- 6 on the year. The freshman from Sherwood struck out five batters in the game and allowed just four hits.
The Reddies and Bisons are locked up in one of the longest games in GAC history in game two. With the score tied at 4-4, the game was halted after 12 innings due to darkness and will resume Saturday at Noon.
The longest game in GAC history occurred on April 13, 2013 when Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello were involved in a 13-inning affair.
The Reddies again took a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Daniels,
Ashlyn White and South put together three straight singles.
Harding got a solo home run from Amanda Berdon to tie the score in the bottom of the inning, but the Reddies regained the lead in the third on a RBI single by Gipson.
It was Gipson's 51st RBI of the season which set a HSU single-season record surpassing Kelcie Glidden's record of 50 set in 2008.
Henderson increased its lead to 4-1 in the fifth-inning as Daniels blasted a triple to right-center field to score Seahorn who singled earlier in the inning. Daniels then scored on White's single to left field.
The Bisons added a run in the fifth and got a solo home run from Kimmy Hendricks to make the score 4-3.
In the seventh-inning, Harding tied the score and loaded the bases with no outs, but Sorensen got out of the jam getting Brookelynn Moon to line into a double play and striking out Hendricks to end the inning.
Harding again had runners in scoring position with no-outs in the ninth-inning, but Sorensen again worked her magic and retired three straight batters to extend the game.
Henderson had golden opportunities to take the lead in extra-innings as White doubled to lead off the 10th and
Tricia Hock and
Amy Halter both reaching base to lead off the 11th but the Reddies could not capitalize either time.
The Reddies have 15 hits in the game with White and Seahorn having three hits each, with Hock, Gipson, Daniels and
Courtney Warren having two hits apiece.
Henderson has left 14 runners on base so far, while Harding has stranded eight.
Following the completion of game two, the two teams will play a double-header to complete the series.
