Box Score 2 The Henderson State softball team used 12 hits in the second game against Arkansas Tech to remain in first place in the Great American Conference on Sunday.
After dropping the first game against the Golden Suns (34-12, 20-10 GAC) by a score of 9-2, the Reddies (32-10, 22-6 GAC) stormed back to take a convincing 10-1 victory in the second game.
In the first game, HSU struggled to get on base, as the Reddies managed just two hits in the game.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, HSU trailed 3-0 before
Tricia Hock smacked a single to center field, scoring
Courtney Warren and
Morgan South.
Arkansas Tech would answer in the top of the seventh, however, as the Golden Suns tacked on six runs in the final inning to take game 1.
Michelle Sorensen picked up the loss for HSU, falling to a 15-8 record from the circle on the season.
In the second game, HSU responded with 12 team hits and nine RBIs, and were led by Hock who cranked out two hits and four RBIs.
The Reddies took a 1-0 lead early in the first inning after
Sarah Gipson singled to right field, scoring Hock.
In the second inning, HSU added five more runs, as Hock smashed a 3-run homer over the left field wall, scoring
Caroline Cullins and South.
A wild pitch from Arkansas Tech's Victoria Huie then scoredÂ
Amy Halter and advanced Gipson to third base.
On the next Reddie at-bat,
Taylor Daniels drove home Gipson with a double to left-center field.
ATU would score one run in the top of the 3rd to make it 6-1, but HSU added four more runs in the 3rd and fourth innings to take a 10-1 lead.
An
Alicia Zack double to left-center field plated South and
Taylor Daniels, sending HSU up 9-1, and Hock closed out the HSU scoring with a ground-out to third base, which allowed Cullins to advance home and allow HSU to close out the game in the fifth inning after the eight-run rule.
Ashlyn White picked up the victory from the circle to improve to 9-2 on the season and pitched five strikeouts for the Reddies. White's only blemish was a homer she gave up in the third-inning. No other Golden Sun would reach base.
Hock, Daniels, and South each had two hits, while Gipson and Zack each recorded two RBIs to go along with four from Hock.
The Reddies return to action on Monday to resume the four-game series against Arkansas Tech, with the first pitch set for 2 p.m. at Dee White Field.
