Box Score 2 The Henderson State softball team used 20 hits to sweep Ouachita Baptist in a conference double-header on Tuesday and remain in first place in the Great American Conference.
The Reddies shutout the Tigers in the opener 5-0, before winning the nightcap 5-2.
In the first game, Henderson (26-8, 17-5 GAC) would score early, taking a 3-0 lead over the Tigers (10-22, 6-17 GAC) after the first inning.
Keirsten Seahorn kicked things off with a double to left center field, scoring
Sarah Gipson and giving the Reddies the 1-0 lead.
Taylor Daniels, HSU's next batter, then homered over the left field wall to score Seahorn and raise the Henderson lead to 3-0.
Daniels accumulated three hits and two RBI's in game one.
The Reddies would tack on one run in each of the second and third innings, as an
Alicia Zack single to left-center field plated
Morgan South to make it 4-0, while Gipson scored on a wild pitch for the game's last run in the bottom of the third.
Michelle Sorensen picked up the win from the circle, improving her record to 12-6 overall.
In game two, HSU once again scored first as
Tricia Hock homered, giving HSU the 1-0 lead over the Tigers.
After a scoreless second inning, HSU poured in three more runs in the third inning when Seahorn smacked a three-run blast over the left field wall, scoring Gipson and
Amy Halter.
OBU attempted a comeback in the sixth inning when Sarah Johnson homered and scored Kailey Madden, but HSU would answer as the Reddies added another run in the bottom of the sixth after
Morgan South scored from third base on a
Destiny Garza ground-out to the shortstop.
Ashlyn White picked up the win in game two to improve her overall record from the circle to 8-2.
Gipson led HSU with five hits on six at-bats, while also scoring three times.
Seahorn finished the day with four RBIs and three hits, while South cranked out four hits in six at-bats.
HSU will next travel to Harding for a pivotal GAC four game series, with the first double-header set for a 2 p.m. start time on Friday afternoon.
