Box Score Henderson State's historic season came to an end Sunday as the Reddies lost to No. 20 Central Missouri 2-0 in the NCAA Central II Region Finals.
Central Missouri, 47-14 on the year, got a two-run home run from Alex Leonhart in the bottom of the sixth inning to propel the Jennies to next week's Super Regional against Augustana.
Henderson State managed three hits in the game and had an opportunity in the seventh inning as
Sarah Gipson led off the frame with a double.
After
Ashlyn White followed Gipson with a walk, UCM pitcher Katie Shockley retired the next three batters to record the win and improve to 25-6 on the season.
Henderson's other two hits included a single by White and a two-out double by
Morgan South in the fifth inning.
Michelle Sorensen pitched the entire game for the Reddies, surrendered five hits, and struck out four batters, and was tabbed with the loss.
The 2015 Reddies' softball season included a record 43 wins, their first ever conference championship, a GAC Tournament runner-up finish, and their first ever NCAA Regional appearance.
HSU went 2-2 in the Regional Tournament, and finished the year with a 43-15 record, the best in school history.
Henderson State's four seniors, playing their final game, were instrumental in this year's success.
Those seniors include
Sarah Gipson,
Amy Halter,
Tricia Hock, and
Alicia Zack.
Included in the success of this year's team were eight players being named to the All-GAC Team, including Player of the Year Gipson, Pitcher and Freshman of the Year Sorensen, and Coach of the Year
Beth Jackson.
