Ashlyn White hit a walk-off grand slam home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to propel Henderson State to a 9-1 win over Arkansas Tech in the opening round of the NCAA Central Regional in Warrensburg, Mo.
The Reddies, 42-13 on the season, will now play the host team Central Missouri, who were 7-2 winners over Missouri Western on Saturday at noon.
The game was scoreless through three innings before the Reddies were able to plate two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.
Taylor Daniels led off the frame with a single and then
Caroline Cullins provided a two-out single to advance Daniels to third base.
Alicia Zack gave the Reddies the lead when she singled to left field to score Daniels and advance Cullins to third.
With runners on second on third and two away,
Tricia Hock collected her second hit of the game to score Cullins for the 2-0 lead.
Arkansas Tech, 40-21 on the season, would answer with a run in the top half of the fifth, but the Reddies would tack on two more runs in the bottom half of the inning.
With two outs,
Morgan South blasted a double to the left-center field wall to score
Keirsten Seahorn and White to make the score 4-1.
Pitcher
Michelle Sorensen would then retire Tech in order in the top of the sixth inning.
The Reddies would load the bases as both Hock and
Amy Halter walked, followed by a
Sarah Gipson single.
Seahorn would then walk to force the first run home of the inning.
After Daniels flew out to left field, White stepped to the plate and took a Victoria Huie pitch over the right field fence for her 12th home run of the year to give the Reddies the win.
"I was just waiting for my pitch," White said. "I was looking for something to drive to just score some runs. I was able to turn on the pitch and hit it out."
Sorensen finished the game giving up four hits and striking out four batters to improve to 21-10 on the year.
Henderson State had eight hits, led by Hock's two singles, with Gipson reaching base all four times on a single and three walks.
The Reddies played Central Missouri back on Feb. 13th at the 8-States Classic with Henderson State winning 7-3.
