Reddies to Face High Scoring SWOSU for Military Appreciation and Family Day

Henderson State returns home for the second time this season as the Reddies face a hot Southwestern Oklahoma team, Saturday at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium in Arkadelphia, Ark. with kickoff slated for 2 p.m.
 
The game will feature Military Appreciation Day and Family Day.

All veterans and current members of the Armed Forces will be admitted free of charge and will be recognized during the game. In addition 10 local high school ROTC programs will be in attendance and participate in a march at halftime.
 
In honor of Military Appreciation Day Brigadier General Bud Jameson will conduct the ceremonial coin toss prior to kickoff.
 
A veterans memorial and ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at the Garrison Center, with Family Day activities also beginning at 10 a.m. at the Duke Wells Center
 
A check-in area for Family Day will be located in front of Duke Wells Center where parents, faculty and staff members can purchase wristbands for the meal.
 
Aramark will be grilling hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixings for $6 per person. All other activities are free.
 
There will be no charge for the meal for Henderson State students with a meal plan, but students must have their HSU ID card. The general public can also purchase a wristband that will cover the meal and a ticket to Saturday's game.
 
Activities for Family Day include zip lining, Nerf games, making wax hands, a Build a Bear booth, and numerous other games. There are plenty of activities and food for all ages.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma is coming off an impressive 58-38 win over No. 9 Ouachita Baptist last week. The Bulldogs totaled 549 yards of offense including 365 passing yards against the Tigers.           

SWOSU is averaging 44 points per game which ranks second in the GAC. The Bulldogs are tops in the GAC in turnover margin at plus-8 having only one turnover this season while forcing nine.
           
The Bulldog offense averages 455.7 yards per game, with the defense giving up 439.3 yards per contest.         

Marc Evans leads the offense from the quarterback position having completed 68-of-110 passes for 875 yards and 10 touchdowns. Evans completed 31-of-46 passes for 365 yards and 4 scores against OBU to earn GAC Offensive Player of the Week honors
.          
Evans has several targets including Derrick Styles who has caught a team-leading 12 passes for 177 yards. D.J. Jones has just nine receptions this year, but leads the team in yardage with 234 including three touchdowns. Jones leads the GAC in all-purpose yards averaging 190.3 per game which includes 220 yards in kickoff returns and 66 yards in punt returns. 

The Bulldog ground game averages 164.0 yards per contest with Karltrell Henderson leading the way with 287 yards and four touchdowns. Henderson ranks third in the GAC in rushing yards per game averaging 95.7 yards per game. Against the Tigers, Henderson rushed for 152 yards on 22 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns.
           
The Bulldog defensive unit is led by Conner Bays who has totaled 35 tackles which ranks second in the league. Kapena Olsen follows with 23 stops.    
 
Henderson State will have to play a full 60 minutes as the Reddies have had difficulties putting points on the board in the second half. The Reddies are averaging 20.0 points and 204.3 yards of offense in the first half despite having a 12:42 time of possession in the half. The second half is a different story as the Reddies average just 5.3 points and 163.7 yards per game.
 
Despite a subpar offensive performance last week, Henderson State was able to come away with a 25-17 win over Northwestern Oklahoma.           

The Reddies totaled 330 yards of offense on 83 plays against the Rangers and scored just one offensive touchdown.  The Henderson offense is averaging just 356.7 yards per game which ranks eighth in the GAC.  

Dallas Hardison completed 26-of-41 passes for 207 yards but had an interception that was returned for a touchdown against NWOSU. The junior from Bentonville, Ark. has completed 73-of-113 passes for 742 yards this season for a 64.6 completion percentage. Hardison has tossed four touchdown passes, but has also had five passes picked off in the first three games.      

JaVante Mack was Henderson's top receiver with five receptions for 64 yards last week. On the year, the senior from Lufkin, Texas has a team-leading 22 receptions for 196 yards. Mack ranks second in the GAC in receptions per game.      

Corey Chappell follows Mack with 161 yards on 11 receptions. The senior from Rowlett, Texas ranks third in the GAC in kickoff returns after having a GAC record return of 100 yards last week and earn Special Teams Player of the Week.

The Henderson ground game is averaging 101 yards per game.      
Jaquan Cole continues to lead the Reddies rushing attack averaging 67.7 yards per game.     

Henderson's defense had a superb game against Northwestern Oklahoma having five interceptions while recording four sacks and nine pass break-ups. The Rangers were limited to 271 yards of offense last week. The Reddie defense has allowed 362.7 yards of offense per game, but rank second in the GAC in rushing defense allowing just 84.7 yards per game.        

Gary Vines totaled nine tackles, an interception and three pass break-ups against NWOSU and now leads the Henderson defense with 20 tackles.    
Linebacker Josh Davis follows with 19 tackles including a game-best 12 tackles against East Central.         

Lawson Schulz has totaled 18 stops on the year. Schulz was credited with four tackles last week and had a 45-yard interception return for a touchdown against the Rangers.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma and Henderson State will meet for the eighth time in a series which dates back to 1933. Henderson leads the all-time series 5-2 after last year's 28-14 win in Weatherford. The Reddies have won three straight against the Bulldogs and four of the last five games.       
 
Those unable to attend the game can tune in to the Henderson State Sports Network. The game will be carried locally on 100.9 FM KDEL in Arkadelphia being the flagship station.
 
Additional stations broadcasting Saturday's game are 100.7 FM and 1310 AM in Malvern, 103.3 FM and 690 AM in Benton, Ark., and 920 AM, The Sports Animal in Little Rock. The Henderson State Sports Network will be also available on-line at hsusports.com.

The broadcast team of Phil Elson, RJ Hawk and Hunter Lively will call all the action of Reddies football with the Domino's Pregame Show set for 1 p.m.
