Henderson Women’s Basketball to Take on SNU in Home Opener

The Henderson State women's basketball team will play its home opener on Thursday when the Reddies welcome Southern Nazarene to the Duke Wells Center as the two teams begin Great American Conference with tipoff slated for 5:30 p.m. 
 
Henderson is 0-2 on the season after losing to Southwest Baptist and Northwest Missouri State last weekend.
 
In the season opener against Southwest Baptist, six Reddies scored in double-figures with freshman Hailey Estes leading the way with 24 points.
 
A 5-8 guard from Conway, Estes knocked down six 3-point field goals against Southwest Baptist. The following night against Northwest Missouri she score 8 points and pulled down 7 rebounds.
 
Bree Bossier began the season scoring a career-high 16 points while grabbing 7 rebounds in the overtime loss to the Bearcats. The junior from Fairfield, Texas scored 8 points the following night against NWMSU.    
 
Brittany Branum was an astounding 12-for-12 from the foul line against Southwest Baptist and totaled 12 points and 6 boards against the Bearcats.
 
Seven freshmen will see plenty of action including Hailey Estes and twins Jameisha "Pink" and Janeisha "Blu" Jones.
 
Pink Jones scored in double-figures in both games last weekend having 10 points against Southwest Baptist and 17 against NWMSU. The freshman from Fayetteville, Ark. was 9-of-15 from the field and 9-of-11 from the foul line.
 
Southern Nazarene will be playing its first game of the season on Thursday. The Crimson Storm were picked to finish 11th in this year's GAC Preseason Coaches Poll.     

SNU is coming off a 6-19 season in which they finished 11th in the GAC with a 5-17 record.
           
Returning to lead the Crimson Storm is senior Abby Boyd. Boyd was an All-GAC Second Team selection and ranked sixth in the GAC in scoring (16.8), eighth in free-throw percentage (.795), and second in 3-point field goals made per game (2.8).

Danielle Gaddis started in all 25 games last season and averaged 8.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest while dishing out 1.6 assists. The senior guard from Oklahoma City, Okla. shot 46.3 percent from the field and 91.9 percent from the foul line a year ago.          
Also returning is Callee Mason who sat out last season. The senior guard started 24 of 26 game during the 2013-14 and averaged 14.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
 
Henderson State leads the all-time series 5-3. The two teams first met on January 5, 2013.

The Reddies have won four straight including a 70-61 victory in Bethany, Okla. and a 78-61 win at home a year ago.    

Henderson has won three straight meetings against the Storm in the Duke Wells Center and the Reddies are 3-1 on their home court.
 
Thursday's double-header will be carried on 106.9 FM KYXK Arkadelphia/Gurdon with Robbie Aaron providing the play-by-play.
 
The Domino's pregame show will air 5:15 p.m. with the women's game set for 5:30 p.m.
