Henderson State returns home to face the top passing team in the Great American Conference as the Reddies play host to Northwestern Oklahoma, Saturday at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium with kickoff set for 2 p.m.

Prior to kickoff, Henderson will celebrate Family Day with numerous carnival rides, inflatables and games for all ages beginning a10 a.m.

Aramarck will host a picnic featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, turkey burgers, chips, potato salad, cookies and beverage at a cost of $8 per plate.

In addition to Family Day, the dedication of the Ken Duke Golf Center will take place at 10:30 a.m.

The game will feature a Ranger offense that averages 349.5 yards passing per game against a Henderson defense that has recorded three interceptions while allowing 220.5 passing yards per contest.

The Reddies, 2-0 on the season, are ranked No. 8 in the latest AFCA Poll after a 34-7 win at East Central.

Jaquan Cole leads the Reddie rushing attack with 164 total yards on 31 carries for an average of 82.0 yards per game. The senior from Duncanville, Texas needs just 48 yards to become the ninth player in HSU history to eclipse 2000 yards in a career.

Jeremy Wilson has also been an asset to the Reddie rushing attack averaging 60 yards per game. The rookie from Tyler, Texas has carried the ball 19 times for 120 yards but is looking for his first collegiate touchdown.

Andrew Black has completed 61 percent of his passes this season (30-of-49) and has totaled 304 yards. The sophomore from Tyler, Texas is still looking for his first passing touchdown of the season.

Last week against East Central, Black became the first Reddie quarterback in 12 years to rush for more than 100 yards, gaining 104 yards on 14 attempts. The last Reddie signal caller to rush for 100 yards was Blake Christenson who gained 133 yards on Oct. 30, 2004 against West Alabama.

Defense has been the story for the Reddies this season. Henderson has allowed just 18 points, second in the GAC. Opponents average just 301.5 yards of total offense per game which ranks third in the league.

Henderson has forced seven turnovers including three interceptions. In addition, the Reddies have totaled 16 tackles for lost yardage including a league-best 7 sacks.

Cameron Sonnier leads the defensive unit with 20 tackles while Dondre Wright has 14 stops to go along with a sack, interception and pass breakup.

Sam Johnson has been a force at his defensive end position with 10 stops. Last week the junior from Sapulpa, Okla. was a terror for blockers in the victory over ECU, racking up four sacks and forcing a tone-setting fumble early in the first quarter on a strip of East Central quarterback Jackson Lamb. For his efforts Johnson earned GAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Another bright spot for the Reddies has been the punting of Cody Mikell.

Last week Mikell averaged 47.7 yards per kick including a 59-yard and 53-yard boot. In fact, five of his six punts were for 40 yards or more with two being downed inside the 20.

For the year, the junior from Poplarville, Miss. has totaled 12 punts for an average of 43.1 yards per kick including five inside the 20. He ranks second in the GAC in punting.

Northwestern Oklahoma enters the contest with a 1-1 record following a 33-14 loss to Sothern Arkansas a week ago. The Rangers are second in the GAC in total offense averaging 486.5 yards per game.

Quarterback Reid Miller leads the GAC in passing, averaging 349.5 yards per game to go along with a league-best eight touchdown tosses. Reid had a breakout season opener against Arkansas-Monticello completing 25-of-41 passes for 493 yards and seven touchdowns.

Last year against the Reddies, Miller completed 30-of-59 passes for 223 yards. Henderson picked off
Miller five times in the game.

Anthony Cota handles most of the ground attack for the Rangers averaging 80.5 yards per game. Last week against the Muleriders Cota carried the ball 12 times for 67 yards.
The Rangers have three primary receivers in Riley Hess, Arte' Miura and Horatio Smith.

Hess has nine catches on the year for 154 yards and three scores, while Miura has 8 grabs for 119 yards. Smith leads the team in reception yards with 178 on 7 catches.

Northwestern Oklahoma and Henderson State meet for the fifth time in a series which began in 2002. The Reddies lead the series at 3-1 after last year's 25-17 win in Alva, Okla.

The first meeting between the two teams was August 31, 2002 when the Rangers beat the Reddies 56-7. In that game, NWOSU totaled 562 yards of offense. Kelcey Williams rushed for 97 yards and 3 scores, while HSU was led by Blake Christenson with 64 yards and a touchdown.

Since that first loss, the Reddies have won the last three meeting by a combined score of 130 to 31.
