Four Football Players Named to Academic All-District Team

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Four Henderson State football student-athletes were recognized Tuesday as recipients of College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® honors, reflecting excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

Gabe Hernandez, James Sneed, Ryan Vollmer, and Mulumba Wa-Kalonji earned the distinction as part of the NCAA Division II Academic All-District Football Team, announced by College Sports Communicators. The honor recognizes student-athletes who combine strong academic performance with meaningful contributions during the 2025 season.

The Academic All-District program is part of the CSC Academic All-America initiative, which evaluates nominees based on their academic achievement, athletic performance, and leadership.
Hernandez, a junior from Lumberton, Texas, anchored the Henderson State offensive line, starting in 10 of 11 games at center. The Health and Human Performance major boasted a 3.8 GPA in the fall semester.

Sneed, a linebacker from Heber Springs, played in all 12 games this season, compiling 16 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and a sack against Northwestern Oklahoma. Sneed posted a 3.6 GPA while majoring in business management.

Vollmer, a junior from Palmdale, California, was a stalwart on the defensive line. He recorded 29 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks on the season. Vollmer was also named to the Third Team All-GAC this season, and the criminal justice major achieved a 3.85 GPA in the fall semester.

Wa-Kalonji, a redshirt sophomore from Aurora, Colorado, also had a banner year on the Henderson defensive line. He ranked seventh on the team with 32 tackles while registering 7.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. The computer science major boasted a 4.0 GPA in his first semester in Arkadelphia.

As a whole, the Henderson State athletic department once again posted a department GPA of 3.0 or better for the 18th consecutive semester. The department put together a GPA of 3.09 for the fall semester.
