Reddies Sign 38 on National Signing Day

It was another banner day for the Henderson State Football Program as Head Football Coach Scott Maxfield and his staff welcomed 38 student-athletes who signed National Letters of Intent to continue their careers with the Reddies.

"Our coaches did a great job of identifying some of the top talented players that will fit well within our system, said Maxfield. "Not only are these players outstanding athletes, they are quality students."

Maxfield has built a Reddie football program that has the best record among all state colleges since 2010 with a 62-17 record including four conference championships. In addition, Henderson has totaled 80 all-conference players during the span of seven years. The winningest coach in GAC history, Maxfield feels that this year's class has numerous future all-conference players.

"We focused on several areas but the main concern was defense and tight ends," Maxfield said.

Highlighting some of the defensive signees are Makheem Cobbs of Stuttgart High School, Nick Fletcher of Conway High School, Paul Chiolino of Russellville High School, Brayden Harris of Benton High School and Brig Banks of St. Thomas High School in Houston, Texas.

An all-conference selection at defensive end, Cobbs recorded over 150 tackles during his career with the Ricebirds.

Fletcher (6-2, 220) is a two-time All-State linebacker who totaled 89 tackles his senior year while compiling 123 stops as a junior.

Chiolino is a 6-1, 275-pound defensive lineman who helped lead Russellville to the 2016 Class 6A State Championship. An all-conference selection, Chiolino totaled 96 tackles including 23 tackles for lost yardage. Chiolino has an older brother, Frank, who is a member of the Reddie baseball team.

Harris was an All-State selection at Benton High School this past year after recording 100 tackles. The 6-0, 235- poounder also played offense catching 5 passes for 25 yards while having 30 carries for 130 yards.

Banks (6-1, 220) is also a linebacker who earned all-district honors both his junior and senior seasons.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Reddies added a pair of quarterbacks including Cave City product Joseph Patterson and Batesville Southside's Josh Millikin.

An All-State selection his senior year, Patterson had a 71 percent completion percentage while throwing for 31 touchdowns. The 6-8, 228-pounder threw for over 3,000 yards last season.

A four year letterman at Batesville Southside, Millikin (6-0, 190) earned all-conference honors his senior year while setting the school's career record for passing yards and passing touchdowns.

One of the top tight ends added to the Reddie roster is Joseph Heuser of South Lake High School in Groveland, Florida. Heuser (6-3, 210) was a first-team all-district selection and ranked among the top 20 players in receiving yards in central Florida.

Highlighting the wide receiver signees are Arik Bennett, Preston Jefferies, and Dylan Johnson.

Bennett helped lead Manvel (Texas) to a 13-1 record and a district championship during the 2016 season. The speedy 5-9, 145-pounder recorded 22 catches for 560 yards and 9 touchdowns his senior year.

Jefferies was part of two state championships at Aledo (Texas) High School, while Johnson played at Pius X High School in Texas where he totaled 40 receptions for 840 yards last season.
