Reddies look to rebound from first GAC loss against NWOSU

After suffering its first Great American Conference loss of the season on Thursday to Southwestern Oklahoma State, the Henderson State women's basketball team looks to get back on track at home Saturday against Northwestern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.

Series:
Henderson leads the all-time series with NWOSU 5-3 and won both games last year against the Rangers, taking an 82-64 victory in Alva, Oklahoma, and a 76-65 win back home in Arkadelphia.

Henderson State Notes:

The Reddies lost their first GAC game of the 2016-17 season on Thursday night, 85-80 to SWOSU. Henderson built a 16-point first half advantage but saw the Lady Bulldogs come all the way back to take the road win. Henderson, normally one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the GAC, started off 6-for-9 from behind the arc in the first quarter, but went cold for the rest of the game, hitting just one of their next 24 attempts. The loss drops the Reddies into a tie for second place in the GAC standings at 4-1 overall in conference play with SWOSU and Arkansas Tech, just one game behind Harding, who is 5-0. Henderson is now 4-7 on the year overall.

Despite the loss, several Reddies had good nights. Freshman Pink Jones had another strong game, scoring 15 points and tacking on six rebounds, four assists and three steals, sophomore Torrie Thompson also had 15 points and tied a season-high with six rebounds, and fellow sophomore Lexis Weber nearly notched a double-double off of the bench for Henderson, as she grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and added eight points in 22 minutes of action.

As a team, Henderson had a strong showing on the offensive glass on Thursday night, pulling down 19 offensive rebounds, 10 more than SWOSU. They also had 13 steals and forced 23 Lady Bulldog turnovers, while only turning it over nine times themselves.

Northwestern Oklahoma State Notes:

NWOSU enters Saturday's contest 2-3 in GAC play and 3-9 overall, following a 101-92 loss to Ouachita Baptist on Thursday night.

The Rangers are led by junior Kalea King, who is fifth in the conference in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game coming into the weekend. She had a big night against OBU, scoring 21 points and adding six assists.

As a team, their 92 points scored on Thursday was 30 more than their average, as the Rangers are 10th in the GAC in scoring offense, averaging just 62.6 points per game, while giving up 79.2 to their opponents - the most in the league. NWOSU is tied with HSU for best in the GAC in 3-pointers made with 97, but they are 10th in 3-point shooting percentage, hitting just 30 percent of their attempts from behind the arc.
