Henderson looks to bounce back against SOSU on Thursday

After stumbling in last weekend's Oklahoma road trip, the Henderson State women's basketball team looks to get back on track Thursday night at home, when it hosts the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State at 5:30 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.

Series:
Henderson is 7-9 all-time against SOSU and won the previous meeting between the two teams this season 92-84 back on Dec. 5 in Durant, Oklahoma.

Henderson State Notes:
The Reddies enter Thursday night's contest 7-6 in the Great American Conference after dropping games last weekend in the Sooner state to both Oklahoma Baptist and Southern Nazarene. In what has turned into an unfortunate theme for HSU over the last four games, they found themselves in a tight contest late against both teams, but could not ultimately come away with wins. Henderson is alone in fifth place in the GAC standings and would jump SOSU for fourth place with a win on Thursday.

Despite the losses, there were still several strong performances for Henderson, including that of freshman Hailey Estes against Oklahoma Baptist, where she scored a career-high 25 points and hit seven 3-pointers to go along with seven rebounds. Brittany Branum also played well against the Bison, scoring 21 points and chipping in eight boards to the Reddies' rebounding efforts.

HSU had four players in double-figures on Saturday against Southern Nazarene, as sophomore Torrie Thompson led the way with 19. Junior Haleigh Henson went over the 200 career 3-pointers mark with her first 3-point bucket against the Crimson Storm, and now has 201 for her career at Henderson, which is the on-going school-record.

Freshman Pink Jones remains fifth in the GAC in scoring, averaging 14.6 points per game and continues to be the leading freshman scorer in the conference, while Henson, Thompson and Estes all average just over 11 points per contest to give the Reddies four players averaging double figures for the season.

Henderson, as a team, is second-best in the GAC in scoring offense (75.3 points per game) steals (8.4 per game), and turnover margin (plus 2.63). The Reddies average 8.5 3-point field goals per game and are second in the league in total 3-pointers made with 162.

Southeastern Oklahoma State Notes:
SOSU is 10-7 overall and 8-5 in GAC play on the year. They are alone in fourth place in the conference standings.

The Savage Storm are led by senior guard Olivia Potter, who is seventh in the GAC in scoring with an average of 14 points per game. Potter has a constant green light on the offensive end of the floor for SOSU. She has attempted 149 3-pointers this season, hitting 54 of them, which is the most attempted 3-pointers by any player in the conference and 36 attempts more than HSU's Torrie Thompson, who is second with 113. Potter is second in GAC history in 3-pointer's made with 226 for her career.

As a team, SOSU is the best in the league at the free throw line, shooting 75.9 percent as a team. The Savage Storm also do a good job of locking down the 3-point line defensively, and are second in the conference in 3-point defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 27.8 percent from the arc.
