Warrensburg, MO. – Nick Shapiro helped lead the Henderson State men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Mule Invitational hosted by Central Missouri.
The Reddies turned in a final round team score of 296 to finish with a 54-hole total of 872, one shot behind Central Oklahoma. Arkansas Tech won the 20-team event with a final score of 857.
Shapiro shot in a final round of one-over par 73 and ended with a three round total of 211. The sophomore from Plano, Texas finished in a three-way tie for first with Arkansas
Tech's Putter Srinoon and Harding's Mason Banger. Srinoon won medalist honors in a one-hole playoff.
Shapiro led the Reddies with 10 birdies for the tournament. Along with teammate
Cameron McRae, Shapiro also led the field in par 4 scoring at 2-under par.
Kevin Boutier was Henderson's number two finisher placing tied for 12
th with a tournament total of 217. The junior from Montrouge, France posted a final round 76. Boutier totaled eight birdies for the tournament and carded a score of 68 in the second round.
McRae was Henderson's best performer in the final round with a 71 on the par 70, 6,400-yard Mules National Golf Club Course. The junior from Hot Springs finished tied for 29
th with a tournament total of 222. McRae had seven birdies in the 54-hole event including three in the final round.
Mitchell Ford tied for 48
th-place after a 227 total which included a final round score of 76.
Stuart Krog rounded out the scoring for the Reddies placing tied for 60
th out of 103 competitors. Krog carded a round of 82 to end with a tournament total of 230.
Henderson will next travel to Tahlequah, Mo. to participate in the Northeastern State Invitational, September 18 and 19.
