ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After splitting a four-game set with Arkansas Tech on Sunday and Monday, Henderson State will host its second-straight Great American Conference series when the Reddies take on the Oklahoma Baptist Lady Bison on Friday and Saturday at Dee White Field.
REDDIES REPORT
- HSU (8-8, 2-2) dropped two tight contests to ATU on Sunday, as the Reddies fell 1-0 in back-to-back games. Henderson responded the next day, defeating Tech 8-6 and 4-1 to split the first GAC series of the 2019 season.
- The Reddies are batting.317 as a team and have been paced at the plate by three underclassmen, as sophomore
Madie Green and freshmen
Ashlyn Taylor and
Abbie Moore are all batting over .400 on the year. Green and Moore have combined for 26 of HSU's 63 RBIs. Junior transfer
Marcela Lopez has also had a hot start in the batter's box, batting .391 and leading the Reddies with 13 runs.
- On the mound,
Mallory Brewer has done most of the heavy lifting for Henderson State. Out of 112 innings pitched by the HSU staff, Brewer is responsible for 51. Furthermore, Brewer has picked up five of the Reddies' eight wins, due in large part to her excellent strikeout to walk ratio. In 12 appearances, Brewer has struck out 25 batters while allowing only five walks.
- HSU's rotation got a boost when
Michelle Sorensen made her first start of the season against Arkansas Tech. Sorensen was nearly untouchable over the weekend, hurling 13.1 innings and striking out 18 batters in the process.
-
Kaitlyn Felder has been solid for the Reddies out of the pen. Felder has made five relief appearances, has a perfect 2-0 record, and has amassed an impressive 1.54 ERA in 11.2 innings. She was credited with the win in HSU's 8-6 victory when she threw 3.2 innings, her longest outing of the season.

SCOUTING OKLAHOMA BAPTIST
- The Lady Bison were picked to finish 10th in the GAC Preseason Poll and so far have played to a 6-7 record, which includes the split of a four-game series with Northwestern Oklahoma State in their first GAC matchup.
- OKBU went 28-29 in 2018, but struggled in GAC play, amassing a 13-26 record. The Lady Bison are led by first-year head coach Sam Maples who comes to Shawnee after serving as an assistant at Colorado Christian University. Maples will try to improve a program that has combined to go 41-80 in conference play over the last three seasons.
- In 2019, the OKBU offense has been led by the sensational hitting of Franki Hull, who is the reigning GAC Player of the Week after compiling an 11-for-14 line with five doubles, two home runs, and seven RBIs against Northwestern.
- Although Hull has emerged at the plate, OKBU is still looking for a shutdown pitcher. As a team, OKBU has accumulated a 6.46 ERA and is allowing opponents to hit .333. The Reddies can expect to see Katie Long and Grace Van Horn on the mound this weekend, as they have combined for 10 of the Lady Bison's 13 starts and five of the team's six wins.
