Henderson Softball Heads to ECU Saturday

GAMES 1-4: LIVE VIDEO | LIVE STATS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Now halfway through their Great American Conference slate, the Reddies will try and use momentum from their 9-6 comeback victory on Tuesday when they wrap up a 10-game road trip at East Central this weekend.

The Reddies and Tigers will play two doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, with both sets of games beginning at 12 p.m.

REDDIES REPORT
- HSU (18-16, 12-10) currently sits in a tie for fifth place in the GAC with Harding at the midway point of the conference schedule. One of the reasons the Reddies are on track to reach postseason play is their team success at the plate. HSU is batting .314 as a team, and is one of three GAC squads with a cumulative average over the .300 threshold.

- At the plate, it is the newcomers who continue to lead the charge for Henderson State. Freshman Ashlyn Taylor, who smacked her third home run of the season on Tuesday evening, is one of two GAC players to have recorded 100 at-bats and maintain a .400 or better batting average this year. Taylor has already been named the conference's Freshman of the Week on two separate occasions.

- Marcela Lopez, who is in her first season as a member of the HSU program after transferring from Incarnate Word, has locked down the centerfield position for HSU, and has set the table for the heart of the Reddies' order with her .476 on-base percentage.

- Dynamic freshman Abbie Moore has also made a big impact in her first season in Arkadelphia. Moore has started all 34 games for HSU, splitting time behind the plate catching and playing the hot corner at third. Moore has hit for both power and for average, maintaining a .370 average while leading the Reddies with 23 RBIs.

- Another freshman, Monica Monreal, had her best pitching performance of the season on Tuesday evening when she threw 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief while allowing just three baserunners. Monreal entered the contest with the Reddies trailing 6-3, but got her first career win when HSU rallied to win it 9-6.

SCOUTING EAST CENTRAL
- East Central (10-19, 6-14) sits in 10th place in the GAC standings, three games back of Southwestern Oklahoma State who resides in the eighth and final spot for postseason qualification.

- The Tigers are led by senior transfer Sable Hawkins, who is finishing her career at ECU after three seasons at Lamar University. Hawkins was Second Team All-Southland as a junior and has paced the Tigers' offense this season with a .370 average and a .505 on-base percentage. She leads ECU with 23 RBIs this year.

- East Central has also gotten massive contributions from catcher Tarah Hilton and outfielder Bridget Gleason. In 19 starts, Hilton leads ECU with a .393 average and a .656 slugging percentage. Gleason, who has started 17 games, has used a very aggressive hitting approach to put together an impressive .352 average. She has walked just once in over 50 at-bats this season.

- The ECU pitching staff has leaned heavily on Paige Leschber and Jacey Henry this year in the circle. The two throwers have started 21 of the Tigers' 29 games and have combined for a 10-12 record. Leschber has the squad's best numbers, with a 3.37 ERA in 62 1/3 innings and 33 strikeouts. Henry has hurled 77 2/3 frames with a 4.69 ERA and 47 strikeouts.
