ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Now 20 games into the 2019 season, Henderson State will play its first true road games of the year when the Reddies travel to Bethany, Oklahoma, for a four game series with the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm beginning Friday.
REDDIES REPORT
- HSU (11-9, 5-3) has won five of its last six contests, including a series win over Oklahoma Baptist where the Reddies took three of four from the Lady Bison. Throughout the series, Henderson was paced by freshman shortstop
Ashlyn Taylor who was named GAC Freshman of the Week after batting .533 with eight hits, three doubles, and six RBIs during the week.
- The Reddies continue to be red hot at the dish and have compiled a GAC leading .324 batting average and an impressive .410 on-base percentage. HSU sports five players hitting above .360, including the freshmen Taylor and
Abbie Moore, who are batting .436 and .400, respectively.
- Taylor's middle infield partner
Lindsey Williams also had a fantastic series against Oklahoma Baptist and reached base safely in all five plate appearances during the Reddies' 9-8 come from behind win in the weekend finale. Williams finished the series a combined 5-for-8 with an astronomical .727 on-base percentage.
- Henderson continues to lean on
Mallory Brewer in the circle, handing the ball to the sophomore for 62.1 innings this season which ties her for the GAC lead. The El Dorado, Arkansas, native picked up two wins and a save last week and went 10 straight innings without allowing an earned run. She is one of three GAC hurlers with 25 innings pitched and a sub 3.00 ERA in conference action.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE
- The Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm were picked to finish 6th in the Great American Conference preseason poll after finishing 2018 above .500 in conference play for the first time since 2012. SNU wrapped up the GAC regular season 20-18-1 and appeared in the Conference Championship game where the Storm fell 2-1 to Arkansas Tech.
- Southern Nazarene (10-9, 5-3) started its 2019 GAC slate 5-1, but allowed 20 combined runs in the final two games of their series with Ouachita Baptist and dropped both contests.
- The Crimson Storm have turned to Brooklyn Sparkman to replace First Team All-GAC and Second Team All-Region pitcher Katelyn Brown who graduated last spring. Sparkman, like HSU's Brewer, has racked up 62.1 innings and has accrued a perfect 6-0 record with a 3.59 ERA.
- SNU returns its most accomplished position player in Mahina Sauer, who has picked up right where she left off in 2018 when she led the GAC with a .410 average and was named Second Team All-GAC and Second Team All-Region. This season, Sauer is batting .438 with a .500 on-base percentage. Southern Nazarene is also getting major contributions from Riley Kalman who leads the Storm with four home runs and 26 RBIs.
