ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The Reddies went through a power surge against Southeastern Oklahoma State this weekend, stroking six home runs including four in the final game of the series which HSU won 8-2.
Henderson State will try to bring that momentum into the second half of the season series against Ouachita Baptist, when the Lady Tigers visit Dee White Field for a Tuesday evening doubleheader with first pitch set for 4 p.m. Â Â
REDDIES REPORT
- HSU (20-22, 14-16) split last weekend's four game set with Southeastern Oklahoma State, keeping the Reddies in eighth place in the Great American Conference standings. However, there is little separation between Henderson and the teams directly above them on the conference leader board.
- Just two and a half games separate the Reddies from Ouachita Baptist who sits in fourth place at 15-12 in the conference. Three teams are sandwiched in between the two Arkadelphia rivals in the standings, giving HSU plenty of time to move up as the regular season winds down.
- The Henderson lineup continues to be led by underclassmen, as five of the six hitters above the .300 threshold are freshman or sophomores. One of those freshmen,
Ashlyn Taylor, holds the team lead in batting average with a .393 clip heading into Tuesday's doubleheader. Over the weekend, Taylor went a combined 4-for-12 against Southeastern with two doubles and two RBIs.
- Sophomores
Lindsey Williams and
Madie Green both had excellent weekends. Williams had two hits in three of four contests, hitting .462 in 13 at-bats. She is now batting .356 on the season. Green showed off fantastic plate discipline on the way to six walks and a team high .667 on-base percentage over four games. She was also a combined 4-for-9 including a home run and four RBIs.
- The story of the weekend was the emergence of freshman
Monica Monreal as the Reddies' cleanup hitter. Monreal went 7-for-14 against Southeastern including three doubles and three home runs. The Texas native notched 19 total bases in 14 at-bats for an astronomical 1.357 slugging percentage. Monreal now leads the Reddies in that offensive category, slugging .586 on the season.
- In the circle, HSU got solid outings from both
Michelle Sorensen and
Becca Almond. Sorensen went the distance and got the win while striking out 10 in the Reddies' 9-2 win during the weekend opener. Almond started two of the four weekend matchups and pitched well in both outings. The sophomore and Maumelle, Arkansas, native picked up her fourth win of the season during the series finale when she pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs in HSU's 8-2 victory.

SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST
- Ouachita Baptist (17-20, 15-12) is coming off of a sweep of East Central in which OBU allowed ECU to just three total runs. The Lady Tigers are now winners of four in a row after losing six-straight games.
- Like the Reddies, Ouachita Baptist is also getting much of its production from its underclassmen. One of those underclassmen is catcher Jillian Jones, who leads the Tigers with a .373 batting average, a .573 slugging percentage, and a .460 on-base percentage.
- Sophomore outfielder Tobi Finley is also an important piece of the OBU lineup, showing off both speed and power with two triples and four home runs. Finley is second on the squad with 20 runs scored and a .539 slugging percentage.
- Ouachita Baptist has had the luxury of three quality starting pitchers this season. Marissa Butler leads the rotation with a 2.91 ERA over 122 2/3 innings, striking out 112 batters in the process.
- Mabry Smith has been the staff's No. 2 this season, making 11 starts and racking up a 3.94 ERA in 74 2/3 innings of work. Kelsey O'Brien has also helped out when needed and is 2-3 with a 3.76 ERA in 12 appearances this year.
