EL DORADO, Ark. — The Henderson State men's golf team carded a first round score of 309 on Monday and is in second place at The Arkansas Collegiate Invitational.
The Reddies were paced by senior Nick Shapiro, who shot a 1-over 73 on the first day to settle into second-place as an individual. Shapiro had four birdies in his round which was tied for the tournament-lead. Mitchell Ford was not far behind Shapiro in a tie for sixth after shooting 5-over 77 on Monday.
Stuart Krog, Christian Woods and Nathan Cossement rounded out the Top-5 for Henderson. Krog carded a 79 to find himself in a tie for 14th, while both Woods and Cossement turned in scores of 80 to finish the day in 22nd.
Playing as individuals, Kasoma Paulino ended the round in fifth place and had a first round score of 4-over 76, Josh McNulty carded a 78 to tie for 10th, and Miller Harris fired a 79 wind up even with Krog in 14th.
Henderson is just three shots back of host Southern Arkansas, who leads the nine-team event with a first round team score of 306.
The Mystic Creek Course played difficult for the entire field on Monday. The average score was more than 10 strokes over par and there were more than four times as many bogeys in the first round as there were birdies.
The Reddies return to action tomorrow when they tee off the second round at 9 a.m.
