ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State (1-8, 0-3) will play its second conference weekend series of the young season with a doubleheader Saturday, Mar. 6 and a single game on Sunday, Mar. 7 against the University of Arkansas at Monticello Blossoms (1-3, 1-2). First pitch will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
REDDIES REPORT
Henderson State is coming off back-to-back doubleheaders against the No. 19 Angelo State Rambelles on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Reddies saw their best outing in game one of day two, forcing extra innings against the formidable Rambelles while eventually falling in the ninth inning, 7-4.
With Angelo St. up 3-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, with two outs on the board, HSU's
Taylor Sledd came in as a pinch-hitter only to send one over the wall to bring the Reddies within one, 3-2.
Monica Monreal came up and followed Sledd's solo home run with a dinger of her own, knotting the game up 3-3, forcing the contest into extra innings. Both homers were Sledd and Monreal's first blasts of the season.
Kaitlyn O'Quinn has been the most consistent at the plate for Henderson this season, hitting a team-high .360 as she is leading the Reddies with nine hits, followed by
Abbie Moore with eight.
Kailey Reese sits atop the team with four RBIs while
Czoey White has three RBIs and four runs herself. White does have a slugging percentage of .571 as she leads all HSU batters with two home runs on the year.
Henderson has not played Arkansas-Monticello since 2019 with last year's season getting canceled halfway through due to Covid-19. Dating back to 2012, Henderson State leads the series against the Blossoms, 18-11. HSU has not fared so well when playing Monticello on the road, however, having only won once in the last eight contests on UAM's field.
SCOUTING ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO
Arkansas-Monticello is coming off its own bought with a formidable opponent, falling to Division I Central Arkansas, 8-0, on Wednesday. The Blossoms did see two hits from Bailey Camp as she registered the only hits on the day for UAM.
Christa Lannon is hitting an impressive .500 through three games played, registering three hits, two runs and one RBI. Both Camp and Katelynn Stamper lead the Blossoms with four hits each while Stamper also has four RBIs to lead UAM, followed by Grace Neal with three RBIs.
Monticello has won the last two games against Henderson and is 11-1 against the Reddies when playing at home since 2011. The last 10 meetings have been just about even, however, with HSU seeing the slight edge, 6-4.
