ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State senior wide receiver Xavier Malone added to his long list of accolades for this fall when he was named a 2022 D2CCA Second Team All-American on Wednesday morning.
Malone, from Mound Bayou, Mississippi, caught 67 passes for 1382 yards and 15 touchdowns this season for the Reddies and was a First Team All-Super Region 3 selection and unanimous First Team All-Great American Conference honoree. He finished the regular season No. 2 in all of NCAA Division II in both yards and yards per game (125.7) and caught a touchdown pass in 10 of Henderson's 11 games.
A big play threat all year long, Malone averaged 20.63 yards per reception and had seven contests where he recorded 100 receiving yards or more. In two seasons and just 22 games for the Reddies, Malone recorded 135 receptions for 2352 yards and 18 scores. He ranks third all-time at Henderson State in career receiving yards, fourth in touchdowns and fifth in receptions.Â
Malone's recognition gives the Reddie Football program its third All-American selection at wide receiver in as many seasons. L'liott Curry earned All-American honors in both 2019 and 2021. Henderson has had seven receivers selected as Division II All-Americans since 2008.
