NCBWA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK – FEB. 16

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The reigning Great American Conference Player of the Week, David Vilches, received another accolade for his hitting display over the weekend when he was named NCBWA Central Region Hitter of the Week on Wednesday evening.

Vilches, from Sheridan, Arkansas, tore the cover off the ball for the Reddies in four wins at the HSU Invitational. The transfer catcher and outfielder hit five home runs, recorded seven hits, racked up 12 RBIs and finished with 24 total bases in four games. He slugged 1.500 for the event and hit home runs in three different contests.

The honor for Vilches is the first for a Henderson State player since 2020, when Alec Lewis earned the nod after a big series against Southern Nazarene.

The Reddies open GAC play this weekend when they host Oklahoma Baptist for a single game at 6 p.m. Friday and a doubleheader at 12 p.m. Saturday.
