RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - For this time this season, the Henderson State men and women brought home the Great American Conference Golfer of the Week honors.
Nathan Cossement and
Gracen Blount were the recipients on their respective sides, finishing third and sixth in each of their events, respectively.
Both individuals helped the Reddies take first at the NSU Golf Classic for the men and the DBU Women's Classic for the ladies. On the men's side, they defeated second-place Washburn by 19 strokes, tallying a team score of 15-under 837. On the women's side, No. 13 HSU defeated a loaded field by four strokes to see its second tournament victory of the young season.
This is Cossement's first time to be named the conference's Golfer of the Week after shooting 6-under 207 at the NSU Golf Classic in HSU's first tournament of the 2022 fall season. After carding a 1-over 72 in round one, the Wavre, Belgium native shot a combined 7-under across the final 36 holes, including a personal collegiate tournament best 5-under 66 in the second round. Third was also the junior's best event finish to date as an HSU golfer.
Blount set a program record with her par 72, 54-hole score of 5-under 211, including carding a 4-under 68 and a 2-under 70 on the first and final round, respectively. Through the first two tournaments of the 2022 fall season, Blount has totales two Top-10 finishes and has played three of her five rounds sub-par.
While Blount and the Henderson women will not play their next tournament until Oct. 10, Cossement will head back to the Sooner State with the men for the MSSU Fall Invitational hosted by Missouri Southern St. in Monkey Island, Oklahoma Sept. 26-27.Â
