ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - One week after
signing a pair of All-Region talents from Angelina College, head coach
Jimmy Elgas and the Henderson State men's basketball coaching staff deliver another splash in the recruiting game by signing Second Team All-Region Deazhon Perkins from Redlands Community College out of El Reno, Okla.
"We are so excited to add Deazhon Perkins to our program," Elgas said. "Our staff has followed him and has watched him for the last two seasons. [Deazhon] is as competitive and hard-working a player we will have on our roster."
Perkins, a 6 foot guard from Oklahoma City, Okla., was named NJCAA Division I Second Team All-Region after averaging 20.1 points per game for Redlands, which was the fourth most in the region, while also averaging four assists and just over two steals per contest.
Perkins closed out the 2023-24 season Top-5 in the region in total points (602), free-throws made (138) and steals (64).
In 2023, the Sooner State product played for the NJCAA DI Region II Champion Seminole State College Trojans, where he averaged 10.5 points per game while shooting 55.7 percent from the field and 40.8 percent from three.
"[Deazhon] has the ability to play multiple positions, can score off the bounce, shoot off the catch and will be one of the quickest players in the league," Elgas said. "Most importantly, DP is all about the right things that win championships: sacrifice, leadership, toughness and working hard everyday. He is a great fit for us at HSU!"
Perkins joins junior college transfers Xavier Owens and Nehikhare Igiehon as well as
high school signees Jameel Wesley from Little Rock, Ark. (Little Rock Christian Academy) and Rondae Hill from Shreveport, La. as the incoming talent for the upcoming 2024-25 season in Arkadelphia.
