Reddies in Sixth Place After First Round of GAC Championship

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – After an early morning start, Henderson State men's golf finds itself in sixth place after one round at the GAC Championship at Forest Ridge Golf Club in Broken Arrow.

The Reddies finished the day at 15-over par; Arkansas Tech leads after 18 holes with a score of even par, nine strokes better than second-place Northwestern Oklahoma State. Southwestern Oklahoma (+11) and Harding and Southern Arkansas (+12) are the other teams between HSU and the lead.

Colin Purifoy led Henderson in the first round with a 1-over par 73. The senior had an up-and-down final two holes with a triple bogey on hole 17 before an eagle on the par-five 18th. Purifoy sits in fifth place individually, five strokes behind leaders Cameron Twynholm and Jacob Peetoom of Arkansas Tech.

Brode Horton sits alone in 21st place after turning in a 4-over par 76. Horton started hot with birdies in his first two holes before six bogeys and ten pars in the rest of his round.

Jacob Knowlton and Cooper Williams are tied for 28th after rounds of 5-over 77. Knowlton birdied his first and last holes of the day, while Williams turned in a card with four birdies after bogeys in three of his first five holes.

Alex Cuadrado rounded out the HSU scoreboard with a round of 8-over 80 on Sunday. Two birdies on the front nine could not overcome three double-bogeys in the round.

The Reddies will be back in action for round two of the championship on Monday.
