Henderson State used a late inning rally to beat East Central Oklahoma 6-2 to win the series against the Tigers, before losing the final game 5-1 Saturday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Henderson State, 20-15 on the season and 9-9 in the Great American Conference, won Friday's opener against ECU 10-5 before Saturday's double-header split.
In the opener, Henderson State trailed 2-1 before scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh-inning.
Dustin Hudson led off the inning with a single to right-center field followed by a
Michael Corso single through the right side.
Adam Ussery then laid down a bunt single with Hudson scoring on a throwing error.
The Reddies took the lead when
Mitch Frey grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Corso to score and put Henderson on top 3-2.
Henderson State then put together a big 8th-inning scoring three runs to provide Reddie starting pitcher
Brittain Diamond a four run cushion.
Zac Zdanowicz walked to lead off the inning with
Taylor Coleman reaching on a bunt single.
Conner Brackhahn then advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt. After
Josh Salmon was intentionally walked to load the bases, Hudson was hit by pitch to score Zdanowicz.
Ussery collected his third single of the game to drive in two more runs to make the score 6-2.
Diamond went the distance on the mound for the Reddies scattering nine hits, while striking out four batters to improve to 6-3 on the year.
In the series finale, Henderson State managed just three hits as the Tigers (23-16, 7-7) were able to salvage the final game of the series.
Reddie pitchers hit five Tiger batters in the game and allowed three doubles.
Ussery ended the series going 8-for-10 with five runs batted in, while Hudson was 5-for-10 with a pair of doubles.
The Reddies will next play host to Southern Arkansas in a non-conference game on Tuesday at Clyde Berry with the first pitch set for 2 p.m.
