Hunter participated in football and track. He was All-AIC in football from 1981-83, All-AIC in track from 1981-84, NAIA All-American in football and track in 1983, and NAIA All-American in track in 1984. Hunter was signed as a free agent in 1985 by the Denver Broncos. He had a long career as a defensive back in the Canadian Football League
