Doyle Wallace served as the volunteer head golf coach at Henderson State from 1980 to 1991. During his tenure, the Reddies saw an unprecedented amount of success, at both the conference and national levels of competition. In 11 years under Coach Wallace, the Reddies won seven-consecutive Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference (AIC) titles from 1985 to 1991 and eight-straight NAIA District 17 Championships from 1984 to 1991.

In his 11 seasons at Henderson, Wallace coached 29 First Team All-Conference selections, 27 All-District honorees, six All-Americans, and had a Reddie win AIC Player of the Year nine times. Some of the greatest golfers in program history played under Wallace’s tutelage, including three-time AIC Player of the Year and 2008 Hall of Honor inductee John Freeman, 2015 Hall of Honor inductee James Barnes, and 1999 Hall of Honor inductee Ken Duke, for whom the Duke Golf Center on Henderson’s campus is named.
