One of the most prolific runners in Henderson’s track history, Karl Koonce garnered numerous honors during his career. He won the AIC championship in the mile run and was a 1973 NAIA finalist in the event. Setting school records throughout his career, he holds the Reddie record in the mile and 880-yard run. Named the “Duke Wells Inspirational Athlete” honoree in 1973, Koonce ran cross country and track from 1969-1973. Following his days at Henderson, Koonce earned numerous honors, including AAA Coach of the Year five times and 1987 Arkansas Coach of the Year
