Henderson State University Athletics

Sawyer participated in football, basketball, and track. He was the football team captain in 1948, All-AIC football player in 1948, and All-AIC in basketball in 1948 and 1949. He was head football coach from 1962-66 and head track coach. Sawyer coached the AIC champion football team in 1963, and he was the athletic director at Henderson. He was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1982.
