A 1971 All-AIC, All NAIA District 17 defense back, Jodie Carter was selected to the Honorable Mention All-American team. A member of the 1969 AIC Championship Team, he was one of the two African-American Captains at HSU, along with James White on the 1972 team. He ran Track under Coach Jim Mack Sawyer in 1971. Jodie later signed as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins in 1973, and played with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League in 1974. He signed again with the Dolphins in 1975, traded to the Kansas City Chiefs that same year, RETIRED in 1976 from Professional Football, and began teaching and coaching at Hot Springs High School. Carter is a former Board Chairman, Henderson State Board of Trustee (1993-98) appointed by then Governor Jim Guy Tucker. He currently serves on the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board of Directors (1999- present) Appointed by Governor Mike Huckabee. This board over sees all the colleges in the State of Arkansas.
